Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben recently opened up about the injury problems he’s undergone for much of this season.
Arjen Robben announced his impending departure from Bayern Munich earlier this season. The Dutchman is eager to end his last season in Bavaria with silverware. He has a great chance to fulfil that wish, but there are doubts right now whether he will be able to contribute in the process of winning those trophies.
The Dutch winger has been struggling to recover from a thigh injury he suffered in November. Speaking to Bild (via First Post), Robben expressed his frustration after receiving yet another setback in his recovery. He insisted that the recovery has been difficult because they’re not entirely sure exactly what the injury is at the moment. However, Robben is determined to play once again this season before bidding farewell to the Bayern faithful.
"“It is very, very frustrating. It’s not going well, we are trying everything, but at the moment, it’s not good. The exact problem is that we don’t know exactly what it is.“It is really difficult. You try everything, you do everything. Twice I was really close to being back in the team again, but then there were setbacks.”"

Robben, along with his long-time partner in crime Franck Ribery, returned to first team training a couple of weeks back. The Frenchman completed his recovery and has featured for Bayern in their last few games. However, after a few training sessions, Robben tweaked his thigh once again and has been stuck in recovery ever since. Niko Kovac has refused to give any return date for the veteran winger.
It has been a start-stop season for Robben at Bayern Munich. The Dutchman suffered some minor knocks here and there throughout the first half of the season. He made 15 appearances across all competitions, in which he found the back of the net five times. His experience would no doubt have come handy in the upcoming Champions League clash against Liverpool, especially considering the questions surrounding Kingsley Coman following today’s game.
Robben’s injury issues might not just end his season prematurely, they could do the same to his playing career. He has been linked with a move back to the Netherlands, as PSV Eindhoven and FC Groningen are interested in signing him on a free transfer. Inter Milan has also been loosely linked with Robben, while FC Tokyo also confirmed their interest in him. If he can’t recover promptly, though, then any hopes of playing anywhere next season could disappear.
Bayern fans will be hoping are able to see Robben play for the club at least one more time before his departure. The Dutchman deserves to end his time at the club in a dignified manner, rather than ending it in a timid way due to this injury. Robben is still a lethal forward on his day, so he can potentially even play a major part in the title race if he recovers quickly.
