Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the list of top European clubs showing interest in Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

There will be major changes in every sector of the Bayern Munich squad this summer. Die Roten are monitoring numerous young players across Europe to help rejuvenate their aging squad and want to build a team prepared for the future. By their own admittance, the Bavarians have no interest in going for star players to replace the departing veterans.

Bayern’s midfield department is one area expected to be addressed in the summer. The club reportedly wants a number six to take over from Javi Martinez. The Spaniard is no longer a first choice midfielder under Niko Kovac, and he is also set to turn 31 at the start of next season. Getting an adequate replacement for the Spaniard this upcoming summer will likely be a priority for the Bavarians.

There have been several reports linking Bayern with various young midfielders this season. Red Bull Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai is the latest midfielder linked with a move to the Allianz Arena.

More from Bayern Strikes

According to Calciomercato (via Sport Bild), Bayern Munich have joined the list of clubs showing interest in the Hungarian midfielder. They will face some competition for the 18-year-old, though, from Juventus, Arsenal and Inter Milan. This report suggests that the player would cost somewhere around €10 million.

Szoboszlai is primarily a central midfielder with a good eye for the killer pass in the final third. He has been impressive offensively for Salzburg’s reserve team, and his consistent performances eventually earned him a call up to the first team. The Hungarian has made five appearances for the senior team, bagging a goal and an assist in these appearances.

Bayern have also been linked with PSG’s Adrien Rabiot and Bordeaux’s Aurelien Tchouameni recently. The German champions were reportedly wanting to sign Rabiot from PSG in the winter window, but a deal never materialized. Kovac is currently trusting on Thiago Alcantara and Joshua Kimmich for the holding midfield position, but the Croatian might prefer one more option in this position. Kimmich is at his best at right-back, while Thiago has constant injury problems and is more of a number 8 than a number 6.

Szoboszlai is a talented young midfielder, but it’s hard to imagine him joining the Bavarian first team. The teenager would likely join the reserves if Bayern made a move for him in the summer window. He would be a signing for the future, however, so it would not be a huge surprise if Bayern decided to sign one more midfielder along with Szoboszlai.
