Bayern Munich are reportedly monitoring the progress of 21-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

There is a sense of change in the mentality of young English players, many of whom are beginning to leave their home nation to progress their careers elsewhere. The Bundesliga has become the main destination for many English teenagers after witnessing the success stories of Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson. Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have also turned their attention to England to help with their squad rejuvenation.

Die Roten tried their level best to buy Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea in January. Bayern made four bids for the 18-year-old winger, but Chelsea were in no mood to part ways with the highly rated English talent. Bayern were also rumored to be interested in Rabbi Matondo before the Welsh younsgter sealed a move to Schalke last month.

According to ESPN, Bayern are now paying close attention to Manchester United’s teenage goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The 21-year-old shot-stopper is currently on loan at Sheffield United. This report suggests the Bavarians face competition from Juventus and some Premier League clubs to the goalkeeper’s signature.

More from Bayern Strikes

Manchester United handed Henderson a new, two-year deal just before he joined Sheffield United in the summer. The Red Devils see Henderson as their future number one goalkeeper and will do everything possible to keep him at the club.

Henderson will have to wait for his opportunity at Manchester United, though, as David De Gea is likely to remain the first choice goalkeeper for several more years. His consistent performances might force United to make him the number two goalkeeper at the club, however.

Henderson has been the main reason for Sheffield United’s fantastic defensive record this season. His previous loan spell at Shrewsbury Town was also pretty impressive. The teenager is well known for making crucial saves using his agility and reflexes. Henderson’s enormous talent and potential have made him one of the leading candidates for England’s future number one between the sticks.

Manuel Neuer is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has a few years of top level play left in him. His past two years have been ruined by injuries, though. Neuer will remain a key part of the Bayern squad for the forseeable future, but the German club needs to start planning from now in order to find his replacement. Henderson has the potential to be a top goalkeeper, but this signing will be difficult for Bayern to pull off due to United’s faith in the teenager. Not to mention the highly-rated Christian Fruchtl — just 19-years-old himself — is waiting in the wings for a chance to stake his claim as Bayern’s next great goalkeeper.
