Bayern Munich are reportedly showing interest in signing 18-year-old Manchester City winger Rabbi Matondo.

There has been a change in transfer policy at Bayern Munich, who have begun building a new, young squad to compete on all fronts. Die Roten have not only focused on securing young German talents from across the Bundesliga, but have recently turned their attention to England.

Bayern’s vigorous pursuit of Callum Hudson-Odoi is the prime example of their new approach in the transfer market. The teenager is highly rated in England but struggling to get the needed game time at Chelsea. The defending Bundesliga champions want to take advantage of this situation and make Hudson-Odoi a key member of their revolution.

Hudson-Odoi is not the only teenager Bayern are keeping an eye on. According to a report from the Sun, Bayern Munich are interested in signing Rabbi Matondo from Manchester City.

More from Bayern Strikes

The 18-year-old winger will have only one year left on his current contract in the summer, and this has attracted interest from several top clubs. This report suggests Bayern are prepared to offer a fee close to £10 million for the services of the Welsh forward.

Matondo primarily operates on the right flank, but he is also capable of filling in on the other side of the attack. He has immense pace and plenty of trickery in his armory to cause havoc in the final third. The teenager has trained with the first team at Manchester City, but he is yet to feature in a competitive game under Pep Guardiola. Matondo has already earned his first international cap for Wales when Ryan Giggs handed him his debut in a friendly last year.

Jadon Sancho left Man City last year to join Borussia Dortmund, denying the opportunity to join the Bavarians. The Englishman has since become one of the most devastating wide players in the Bundesliga. Reiss Nelson’s loan transfer from Arsenal to Hoffenheim is another example of a young English player doing well in the Bundesliga.

Die Roten are no doubt hugely disappointed they missed out on Sancho last year and are keen on rectifying this mistake by signing Hudson-Odoi. The Chelsea starlet is looking an increasingly likely transfer that would help the Bavarians both now and in the future. Matondo, however, would be a move strictly for the future. He is a fine young talent, but he is unlikely to be high on Bayern’s list of transfer targets.
