Recent rumors claim Bayern Munich are interested in bringing Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata in on a temporary deal with an option to buy.

There have been intense negotiations between Chelsea and Bayern Munich during the past month for the transfer of winger Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Bavarians are working hard to get this deal over the line this month and have already made four bids for the teenager.

The latest reports in England and Spain suggest Bayern might be interested in signing more than one player from Chelsea, though. Alvaro Morata has reportedly cropped up as a transfer target for the German champions. According to a report from the Daily Express, Die Roten hope to sign the Spanish striker on a loan deal.

Chelsea are apparently ready to sell the former Real Madrid striker in January after his less than stellar spell at the club. The Blues are also open to a loan deal with an obligation to buy in the summer. This report suggests that Bayern want an option rather than an obligation to sign him permanently in June, however.

More from Bayern Strikes

Despite reports from England and Spain claiming Bayern are interested in Morata, the German media has not yet confirmed these reports. In fact, Sky Germany reporter Max Bielefeld rejected the rumors, claiming the Bavarians have no interest in Chelsea’s striker.

Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2017 for a club record fee of €66 million. The Spanish forward began his stint at Chelsea in a prolific way, scoring seven goals in his first seven appearances. However, his form didn’t last long and he has struggled significantly in the past ten months. He has lost his place in the starting lineup and fallen way down the pecking order under Maurizio Sarri.

The former Juventus striker is not exactly the type of forward that can lead the line for a top European club. He has been at his absolute best when he has played the role of second striker at Juventus and Real Madrid. He would have to settle with a similar role at Bayern as Robert Lewandowski is the undisputed first choice striker at the German club.

Morata has the qualities capable of forming a very good partnership with the Polish striker, and he would give Niko Kovac one more interesting option in attack. The future of Sandro Wagner is uncertain. Morata could serve as a fine temporary substitute for the German if Bayern decide to sell him this month. Otherwise, this move wouldn’t make much sense.

On the other hand, there are no significant developments in the negotiations for Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Daily Mail report the teenager has made up his mind to join Bayern. He is ready to run down his contract and join Bayern on a free transfer next summer if nothing materializes this month. It will be interesting to see if the two clubs can come to an agreement before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
