22-year-old Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman recently opened up on his injuries, admitting an early retirement could be possible.

Kingsley Coman has endured varying fortunes since joining Bayern Munich in the summer of 2015. The Frenchman has developed into one of the most threatening wingers in all of Europe. However, injuries have prevented him from building enough form to truly emerge as a superstar.

The Frenchman has all the makings of a world-beater, but it’s impossible to improve significantly when you are not playing for months at a time. At 22-years-old, though, Coman still has plenty of time and potential to become one of Europe’s best players.

The former Juventus wide man recently opened up on his injury woes in an interview with TF1 (via Kicker). Other than lamenting that he missed out on so much earlier this year, Coman made a very mature admission about his future. The Frenchman hinted that an early retirement could be in order if he cannot overcome his injury difficulties.

More from Bayern Strikes

"“I will not accept another operation. I hope I will not have to relive what I’ve been through, but enough is enough.“Maybe my foot is not made for [playing professionally]. I will go live another, anonymous life.”"

It would be a real shame to see a player of Coman’s undeniable talent be driven into an early retirement. However, it shows a great deal of maturity for a player of his age to accept that he may be forced to leave the sport he loves for reasons that are beyond his control.

From Bayern’s perspective, it would be disastrous for Coman to suffer yet another injury that would put his career at risk. When fit, the 22-year-old is already Die Roten‘s best winger. He is not only a key player for them now but a vital component of the club’s future.

We haven’t seen much of Coman since Niko Kovac arrived at Bayern. He was exceptional in the DFL Supercup against Eintracht Frankfurt, but was soon injured in the Bavarians’ opening game of the Bundesliga season.

Having just returned to full fitness, perhaps we will get a glimpse in the next few weeks of what the youngster can do under his new coach. Kovac has needed a spark to really ignite his attack. While Serge Gnabry has stepped up in recent weeks and offered that, Coman will surely add much more once he completely reintegrates into the first team.
