Colombian attacking midfielder James Rodriguez refuses to give any assurances about his future at Bayern Munich.

James Rodriguez has been enduring a nightmarish second season at Bayern Munich. The Colombian has been struggling for form and gametime under new coach Niko Kovac. He is currently nursing a serious knee injury that will keep him out until the winter break. James will be expected to deliver the goods in the second half of the season, though, as he did in his first campaign in Munich.

There are some serious questions about James’ future, as numerous clubs have been linked with him in the past few months. Speaking at his fan club visit (via AS), James publicly admitted that he is not happy with his situation at Bayern. The Colombian further added that he might leave the club in the summer window if he fails to get enough gametime.

"“The situation is, of course, completely different compared to last year. With the new coaching team, I am not playing that much anymore.“I cannot make any promises. If I have to go because I am not playing, then I’ll go. I would like to stay, because I feel the love of the fans, both here and within the whole Bayern family.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Despite his complaints about a lack of playing time, the former Monaco midfielder had words of praise for Niko Kovac. James believes that Kovac is a young and dynamic coach who will taste success sooner than later.

He is reportedly not a big fan of Kovac’s methods, though. James generally does well under managers who don’t try to get the best out of him by using tough love. Carlo Ancelotti and Jupp Heynckes were able to extract the best out of the Colombian using this approach.

James is reportedly seeking talks with the Bayern hierarchy during the winter break in order to know the plans of the club with him. The Bavarians have an option to make his transfer permanent in the summer, but the club is in no rush to make their final decision. The reports in Germany do suggest that Die Roten are now unlikely to exercise this option, however.

It is quite a sad turnaround that there are doubts about the Colombian’s future at Bayern. James is still one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. He has the prime years of his career ahead of him and it would be a real shame if Bayern don’t sign him in the summer window.

Kovac will be hoping to get the best out of his dynamic playmaker in the second half of the season. He is Bayern’s most efficient attacking player after Robert Lewandowski, and Bayern need his creativity to overhaul Borussia Dortmund’s lead at the top of the Bundesliga table and defend their title. James must keep working hard and grab his opportunities with both hands as he did under Heynckes last season.
