Joshua Kimmich has urged Bayern Munich to sign his German national team teammate,19-year-old Kai Havertz, from Bayer Leverkusen in the near future.

We’re midway through the final international break of 2018, so Bayern Munich were not in action this weekend, but it has been an eventful few days for the German national team. The 2014 World Cup winners delivered their best performance of the year in a friendly against Russia. However, they will still be relegated from the top of the UEFA Nations League, regardless of their result against Netherlands on Monday.

Joachim Low listed a youthful starting lineup against the Russians. The youngsters didn’t disappoint Low and provided an ideal blueprint for the German manager to follow in the future. Kai Havertz was one of the most impressive players against Russia, as the 19-year-old continues to take major strides in his development. Speaking to Sport Bild, Joshua Kimmich insisted that Havertz has all the attributes of an ideal Bayern player.

"“I cannot buy him, but it is a player who I think would suit us very well.“The performance of Kai was more than respectable. He was outstanding and the best player on the pitch. He always found the right solution in difficult situations.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Havertz has become a key player for Bayer Leverkusen since making his professional debut in 2016. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder quickly became the youngest player to make 50 Bundesliga appearances. Havertz is very creative in the final third and has a knack for scoring goals himself. He has already contributed to ten goals for Bayer Leverkusen this season. The German has also be deployed in the deeper midfield role, which works well due to his excellent passing range.

Bayern has always prioritized bringing in young, German talent from across the Bundesliga. During this time of change at the club, the Bavarians are much more inclined to spend their budget on young talents than ready-made stars. Kai Havertz is an ideal fit for Bayern, as he satisfies both these conditions. The German starlets is considered one of the most talented youngsters in Europe, and his performances continue to attract attention from many top clubs.

There are going to be many changes in Bayern’s squad next summer. The Bavarians will refresh their squad and replace some of the veterans with younger, more ambitious players. Earlier this week, many German reports suggested that Kai Havertz is one of the players on Bayern’s transfer list, but his contract with Leverkusen doesn’t expire until 2022.

Bayer Leverkusen has also dismissed all suggestions that Havertz will leave in the summer transfer window. The defending champions will have to come up with a massive offer to land Havertz next summer. He needs regular game time right now, so staying at Leverkusen for a couple more seasons might even be better for him.
