Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Aaron Ramsey in the next summer transfer window.

Bayern Munich could be in for a busy transfer this winter. There are a few positions the Bavarians need to address in order to avoid putting themselves in a tricky situation at the final phase of the season. Bayern spent nothing this past summer, instead opting to trim their squad numbers.

The Bayern board will also likely keep their eye on the players who will be free agents next summer. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is one of the most high-profile players who will be available for free at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Express, Bayern Munich are interested in the signing the Welshman. The former Cardiff City midfielder was set to sign a new deal at Arsenal, but the club decided to withdraw their contract offer last month.

This report also suggests that Bayern face some competition for Ramsey’s signature from Manchester United and Liverpool. The German club has an advantage, however, as clubs outside of England are free to negotiate with the player beginning in January. Ramsey’s wages will be the only concern for Bayern, as the midfielder reportedly wants a significant pay raise from his current deal.

The 27-year-old is primarily an attacking midfielder, but he can also operate in a box-to-box role. Ramsey has a great knack of scoring goals, and his passing in the final third is pretty decisive. He has been the highest goal-scoring midfielder in Arsenal’s history. Ramsey would provide a good variety to Bayern’s midfield and provide some help going forward as well.

His fitness over the years in the only thing holding him back from becoming a world-class player. The dynamic midfielder has struggled with numerous muscle injuries in the past few seasons. He needs to be managed perfectly to avoid injuries and get the best out of him. It will be a huge risk from Bayern’s point of view if they are ready to invest in a 28-year-old injury prone midfielder. However, the fact that he would cost the club nothing in terms of a transfer fee could be influential.

Bayern Munich signed Leon Goretzka from Schalke in the summer window with a similar sort of deal. The German midfielder has similar attributes to Ramsey, but lacks his consistency in scoring goals. Goretzka’s position will be in immediate threat if Bayern do sign Ramsey. James Rodriguez and Thomas Muller will also be worried about their gametime, as they primarily operate in attacking midfield.

The Bavarians do love a free transfer, but signing Ramsey makes zero sense right now. Bayern need to bolster their holding midfield position instead of looking for an attacking midfielder. Ramsey’s wage demands will also disrupt the club’s wage structure. There are more drawbacks than advantages to this transfer.
