17-year-old Bayern Munich prodigy Oliver Batista Meier has featured for Germany at the U-17 level but could soon leave the DFB for the Brazilian FA.

Oliver Batista-Meier was one of several young players Bayern Munich handed long-term contracts over the summer. The 17-year-old is an exceptional young talent, and has potential to one day star for the Bayern first team.

However, before that time approaches, Batista-Meier must give strong consideration to his international future. He is eligible to feature for both Germany and Brazil, but he has so far only played for Germany at the junior levels — U-17s and below. Should he decide he’d rather dedicate his future to Brazil, he has the option to do so.

According to the player’s agent (who spoke recently with Bild), Batista-Meier is considering making that swap. Evidently Batista-Meier does not feel appreciated by the DFB.

More from Bayern Strikes

He’s only 17-years-old but has already featured for Bayern’s amateur side, and usually features at the U-19 level. Based on his agent’s remarks, it seems the player is aggravated that he has not yet received a call-up to the German U-21 squad.

"“The DFB must be careful that they don’t lose Oliver. He can also play for Brazil, and they would love him for their U-21 national team.“Why shouldn’t such a player be nominated for the U-21 side and skip some years?”"

Batistia-Meier is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young talents in the Bayern academy at the moment. He is an incredibly talented player, as evident by his receiving the silver Fritz Walter award for U-17 players earlier this year.

Though he usually features as a left winger, Batista-Meier is equally capable of playing as a more central attacking midfielder or even shifting over to the right flank. What he lacks in physicality, he more than makes up for with supreme technical ability and exceptional attacking instincts.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Batista-Meier make the jump to the Bayern first team within the next few seasons. If his development continues at such an impressive rate, he’ll likely make that leap sooner rather than later.

As for the player’s international career, it’d be a big blow for Germany to lose a young, talented player like Batista-Meier. Brazil, however, would no doubt be overjoyed to secure such a promising player for the future.
