After four consecutive disappointing results for Bayern Munich, Niko Kovac is on the hot seat, but club president Uli Hoeness continues to give him support.

Bayern Munich began the 2018-19 season in a fantastic manner, hitting all the right notes in their first seven matches. Niko Kovac’s near-perfect start to life in Bavaria quickly went downhill, however.

After their 3-0 loss at home to Borussia Monchengladbach over the weekend, Bayern have now lost two of their last four matches. The other two results during this time have been equally disappointing 1-1 draws, at the Allianz Arena no less, to opposition they should have defeated rather easily.

Needless to say, the “crisis” talks are in full swing. Many who follow the club are — rightly — frustrated with the recent results, but some are even going as far as to call for Niko Kovac’s sacking. The Croatian, according to his detractors, clearly does not have what it takes to manage a club of Bayern’s caliber.

More from Bayern Strikes

According to club president Uli Hoeness, however, Niko Kovac’s future in Munich is a non-issue. He completely supports the new manager and expects him to lead his squad out of their rut.

"“I will defend Kovac until the death. We are completely calm [about the situation].” (via Kicker)"

For Kovac, having the support of his bosses will be huge. The 46-year-old is already under an unreal amount of pressure from those outside the club. The last thing he needs is for his bosses to publicly blame him for a poor run of form.

That’s not to excuse Kovac from taking any of the blame for Bayern’s problems. But growing pains are always to be expected when a new manager takes over a club. If the issues persist and he cannot come up with a solution on the pitch, then discussion of his ability to manage the club would be appropriate. For now, however, there’s not enough evidence to justify firing Niko Kovac.

Former Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer agrees that any judgments made about Kovac at this point are a bit premature. The Eurosport correspondent recently shared his thoughts on the matter.

"“I don’t understand the discussion around Niko Kovac already. Give the man a break, not much has happened. Total unity must now be restored through hard work.”"

Thanks to the timely intervention of an international break, Kovac now has two weeks to work with his players in training and do his best to find a solution to Bayern’s recent problems.

If the Bavarians continue their run of disappointing results after returning from their break, then Kovac’s future in Munich could be in real jeopardy. But for now, the Croatian will remain at the club under full support of his bosses.
