Bayern Munich were recently reported to have shown interest in Roma winger Cengiz Under, whose agent has now confirmed contact with the German club.

After starting the season with an impressive seven game in streak, Bayern Munich have now grabbed only two total points from their past four matches. The “crisis” talks have already begun for some, and the Bavarians are inching nearer and nearer to making them legitimate.

There are several factors that have played a big part in Bayern’s recent decline in form. Among them is the club’s lack of depth in the wide positions. With Kingsley Coman out injured, Die Roten are left with only three true wingers — two of which are well into their 30s.

The club’s reluctance to spend on any serious reinforcements for their wings this summer may be coming back to haunt them, and Bayern are already being linked with players for the January (or even summer of 2019) transfer market.

More from Bayern Strikes

Most recently, the Bavarians were linked with a move for Roma starlet Cengiz Under. According to Calciomercato, Bayern are prepared to offer €60 million for the young Turk.

Though these rumors initially seemed a bit unbelievable, they have since become a bit more credible. Speaking with Sky (via Fussballtransfers), Under’s agent confirmed that there have been talks with Bayern Munich over a potential move.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2016, Under has continually developed at Roma. What he lacks in stature, he makes up for in supreme ball control and expert creative abilities. He’s a hard-working player, naturally left-footed and excellent at sneaking into the channels and getting in behind. Should his move to Munich materialize, he’d be a natural successor to Arjen Robben on the right flank.

Under is the hottest young talent to emerge from Turkey in a long time. He’s quite obviously destined for one of Europe’s bigger clubs, but the questions of where he’ll go and when that move will arrive remain unanswered.

He’s undeniably talented and would be a good acquisition for Bayern, but is he really worth the reported fee of €60 million, almost €20 million more than the record fee the Bavarians paid for Corentin Tolisso in the summer of 2017? Maybe in the future, but not right now.

However, if the German champions are set on bringing Under to the Bavarian capital, they’ll surely be able to work out a deal that satisfies all parties involved.

Alphonso Davies will join from Vancouver Whitecaps in January, when Kingsley Coman is expected to make his return from injury. Unless Arjen Robben or Franck Ribery (or even Serge Gnabry) have picked up serious injuries at that point, it will be a big surprise to see Bayern move for another winger.

If they do make a move, though, Under would be a decent option — just not for the reported €60 million pricetag.
