In a recent interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung, Bayern Munich center-back hit out at his critics and opened up more about his turbulent summer.
Jerome Boateng decided to stay at Bayern Munich this summer despite having offers from multiple clubs to make a change of scenery. Both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain made serious moves for the center-back that never materialized.
Boateng recently opened up on the summer transfer rumors, suggesting it was his own decision to remain in Bavaria, contradicting previous reports that he only remained because the club didn’t receive a good enough offer.
Whether because neither club made a good enough offer for the player or because he made the decision on his own to remain in Munich, Jerome Boateng has no thoughts of leaving the club anytime soon.

However, in a recent interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung, the center-back had a lot to say about his treatment from the club’s higher-ups and those who criticize his lifestyle among other things.
"“It’s important for me to again clarify that I am fully focused on FC Bayern. On the other hand, I don’t think it’s so nice when things are being said about me everywhere and I don’t receive any public support from the club."
He emphasized that he was really bothered during and after the World Cup, when he fell under heavy criticism and neither Karl-Heinz Rummenigge nor Uli Hoeness provided any public backing.
Boateng did note, however, that he thoroughly enjoys working under Niko Kovac. The Croatian made it clear to Boateng over the summer that he would have an important role to play if he stayed in Munich.
We’re only a little over a month into the new season, but it already looks like keeping Boateng was the right choice. He has been excellent in each of his appearances under Kovac, whose penchant for rotating his squad could be exactly what the injury prone defender needs.
Sharing his central defensive duties equally with Niklas Sule and Mats Hummels will no doubt go a long way in keeping the 30-year-old fit and in form throughout the season.
When he’s at 100 percent, Jerome Boateng is one of the best defenders in all of Europe. But no player enjoys feeling unsupported by their club executives, and it’s hard for anyone to play at their best without that support. It’s past time for Rummenigge, Hoeness and Boateng to come together and put aside their differences for the betterment of the club.
