After their team’s emphatic 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart, Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac and midfielder Leon Goretzka spoke to the media about the match.

Bayern Munich continued their fine start to the 2018-19 with a solid 3-0 win over VfB Stuttgart yesterday. The Bavarians were better than their Swabian opposition in every sense of the word and fully deserved their three goal victory.

The win marks Niko Kovac’s fourth in as many competitive games as Bayern Munich manager, giving him a total score differential of 12-1. Stuttgart spoiled Bayern’s party in the final game of last season, so this win makes a good revenge for the German champions.

The game against Stuttgart marked Franck Ribery’s 250th Bundesliga appearance with Bayern, but he wasn’t the only player for whom the match marked a special occasion. New signing Leon Goretzka made his first competitive start in red and took advantage of the opportunity.

More from Bayern Strikes

The 23-year-old scored one goal and assisted another from his box-to-box midfield role. He covered more ground than any of his teammates and was a real nightmare for the Stuttgart defense. After the match, Goretzka spoke about his excellent display with bundesliga.com.

"“I’m very happy.“I’m not used to coming off the bench, so I was all the happier to play from the off. I was really motivated because it was my first Bundesliga start and I wanted to prove to my teammates that I could help the team. I tried to play as well as I could today and I think I succeeded in doing so.”"

The new Bayern number 18 is not the only person who thought his performance was deserving of praise. Bayern Vice-captain Thomas Muller was impressed with his new teammate’s performance as well.

Niko Kovac was also quick to praise his young star for his performance. Speaking with the media after the match, the Croatian highlighted Goretzka’s display before going on to congratulate the entire team (via ESPN).

"“That looked really good, I’d like to congratulate my team on it. I’m fully satisfied.“All four of our competitive fixtures so far have been good. The team turned in a really good display today, around 12 corners to Stuttgart’s zero in an away match, lots of possession, they created promising chances.”"

With the international break about to begin, Bayern Munich now have a chance to re-energize after an excellent start to the season. The club’s next match does not come for nearly two weeks, when they will take on an exciting young Bayer Leverkusen side.
