Spanish left-back Juan Bernat has officially transferred from Bayern Munich to French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Juan Bernat is the last player to leave Bayern Munich this summer. The Spaniard has joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain, who stepped up their interest in the player during the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

According to an announcement from PSG’s official Twitter account, Bernat has completed his move to the French capital. He has reportedly signed a three-year contract at the club and will keep the number 14.

Bernat is the third player to leave Bayern this summer, after the club promised to trim the squad heading into the ’18-19 season. Arturo Vidal was the first, making a big transfer to Barcelona early in the summer window.

More from Bayern Strikes

Sebastian Rudy became the second earlier this week, completing his move to FC Schalke 04, where he will surely become an important player under Domenico Tedesco.

Jerome Boateng was linked with a move to PSG all throughout the summer after hinting at his desire to leave Munich. However, a move never materialized, as Bayern’s asking price for the big German was deemed to high by the Parisians.

Renato Sanches was briefly rumored to be a transfer target for the French giants as well, but nothing ever became of those rumors. Like Boateng, his future is firmly planted at Bayern Munich.

Robert Lewandowski was also linked with a move away from the club early in the transfer window, but Bayern’s higher-ups never entertained any thought of their Polish superstar leaving the club.

Bernat’s departure is by no means a surprise. Since joining the club from Valencia in the summer of 2014, the left-back has struggled to make himself a genuine contender for a place in Bayern’s starting XI.

He has, at times, showed flashes of brilliance, but they were almost always followed with periods of woeful form. Never truly pressuring David Alaba for a spot as Bayern’s first choice left-back, Bernat even lost his back-up position to Rafinha, a naturally right-sided defender almost a decade Bernat’s senior.

Despite more often than not being quite poor in Bavaria, Bernat has secured a big move to one of the world’s best clubs. Why? Because Thomas Tuchel, a coach cut from the same cloth as Pep Guardiola, sees something in him that he likes (just like Pep did four years ago).

A move to PSG is exactly what Bernat needs to revamp his career. He’s still relatively young and has the talent. Playing as more of a wingback under Tuchel could prove perfect for the Spaniard, who has always been more impressive going forward than tracking back.

Next. Serge Gnabry can prove his worth in Kingsley Coman's absence. dark

This is a deal that is great for all parties. Bernat gets a move to a top club with a greater chance at getting playing time, PSG get a capable left-wingback and Bayern Munich receive a decent payout for a player who wouldn’t have got much playing time this season and whose contract expired next summer anyway.
