Bayern Munich’s Juan Bernat close to joining Paris Saint-Germain
Bayern Munich full-back Juan Bernat is reportedly closing on a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern Munich have stepped up their transfer efforts in the final days of the summer window. The Bavarians want a small squad this season, so they are focusing on offloading a number of players before the transfer window closes. Sebastian Rudy completed a move to Schalke on Monday. With the German’s departure now settled, Juan Bernat’s future is now in full focus.
Bernat emerged as a transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain in the last few days. According to the latest update from Sky Germany, PSG are in advanced negotiations with Bernat’s entourage. The report suggests that Bayern Munich will receive a fee in the region of €15 million for the Spaniard.
PSG have reportedly been deliberating a move for the left-back but had to sell a few players before making additions to their squad. The Parisians sold Goncalo Guedes to Valencia on Monday to make space for some new signings.

Cadena Ser also reports that Bernat could soon be joining PSG. The Spanish radio insists that there is already an agreement between PSG and Bayern for €14 million. Bernat’s wages were initially reported as the stumbling block in this deal. However, it is now believed that it will take a massive turnaround for this deal to break down.
PSG were initially interested in signing Felipe Luis from Atletico Madrid. The Brazilian doesn’t want to leave Diego Simeone and Co., however. Numerous reports even suggested that Bernat could be Luis’ replacement at Atletico.
Juventus and Valencia were also linked with a move for Bernat in this transfer window, but no concrete offers ever arrived from those clubs. Bayern have been open about their intention to sell the left-back all summer, so it’s no surprise to see a deal finally near completion.
Bernat has struggled for regular gametime since Pep Guardiola’s departure in 2016. The Spaniard also suffered a serious injury in preseason last year, which kept him out for much of the season. He remained out of favor under Jupp Heynckes after recovering from this injury and doesn’t seem to have a much higher standing with Niko Kovac.
Bayern Munich are not going to sign a replacement for Bernat. Instead, Rafinha will serve as DAvid Alaba’s back-up on the left side of defense. The Bavarians have no plans, in fact, to make any additions to their squad this summer, even with Kingsley Coman’s recent injury. Bernat is likely to be the last player who will leave Bayern Munich in this window. Jerome Boateng has also been linked with PSG, but that move is unlikely to materialize this summer.
