Five Bayern Munich players who could be in for a big season
Kingsley Coman
Bayern Munich handed a one-year contract extension to Franck Ribery at the end of last season. This contract is likely to be his last with the German club. Bayern already have a player — in Kingsley Coman — to replace Ribery. This season Coman might completely cement his position in the starting eleven, as Ribery will be used judiciously.
Coman was able to hit the ground running for Bayern when he arrived from Juventus in 2015. He became a key player for Bayern in Pep Guardiola’s last season at the club, albeit often playing on the right flank. The Frenchman struggled to get much gametime under Carlo Ancelotti, though.

The Italian showed more faith in the veteran Robbery duo. After the Italian’s departure, Coman flourished under Jupp Heynckes. He displaced Ribery in the starting lineup and started showing his talent on a consistent basis. But Coman’s season was ended prematurely by a serious knee injury in February.
Coman ended the campaign with seven goals and six assists in all competitions. These stats are deceptive, however, as Coman was far more effective for Bayern last season.
He has looked sharp in the preseason. He scored a goal and set up another against Eintracht Frankfurt in DFL Supercup. The Frenchman has already signed a new, long-term deal with Bayern and looks to be an important part of the club’s future.
Kingsley Coman has all the traits to become a world class winger. After a disappointing end to last season, he is surely ready to become a pivotal player for Bayern Munich. If he can continue improving his end product and stay fit, the Frenchman will be one of the most threatening wingers in Europe.
