In a recent interview with Bild, prolific striker Robert Lewandowski pledges his loyalty to Bayern Munich and addresses past unrest.

He finally speaks. After spending a whole summer of silence on the topic, Robert Lewandowski has finally addressed his happiness at Bayern Munich and discussed his past unrest in the Bavarian capital.

Lewandowski was linked with a big move abroad all throughout the summer after switching his agent to Pini Zahavi earlier in the year. The Pole was reportedly unhappy in Munich and wanted a move to one of Europe’s other elite clubs.

Bayern’s higher-ups spoke several time on the issue, constantly reaffirming that their star striker was absolutely not for sale. His agent, meanwhile, came out and spoke about his client’s unhappiness.

More from Bayern Strikes

Despite this, Lewandowski never commented on the matter himself, instead focusing on his World Cup campaign and summer holiday.

But that has now changed. In an interview with Bild, Lewandowski revealed exactly how he felt earlier this summer and gave an update on his current situation at the club.

"“In April, May, almost everyone shot me. I felt no protection from the club. I felt alone. I scored no goals in two or three important games and suddenly everyone was thinking: ‘Free shots at Lewandowski!’ I did not see anyone who was behind me at the time. Nobody was behind me, neither [Karl-Heinz Rummenigge or Uli Hoeness] defended me.“I felt I had just spent a season at Bayern and had zero credit from the club. That’s why I thought about a move.”"

The Polish superstar clearly felt abandoned after his form took a serious dip toward the end of the ’17-18 season, when he was subject to heavy criticism for his poor performances in the big games.

Lewandowski must be given respect for admitting his desire to leave the club. That’s not something every player would do. But don’t worry; his feeling has changed. By his own words, Lewandowski is now fully committed to Bayern and has no thoughts of a move abroad.

"“Now, I’m back at Bayern with my whole heart. I noticed here in Munich how the fans are behind me and I realize that they still want me. I would never go on a strike or mess with the club. I’m not wasting any thoughts about moving away anymore.”"

That should settle that issue! As for his recent contract extension with Pini Zahavi, Lewandowski explained that it has nothing to do with a potential future move: “There are many other things that an agent takes care of.”

Based on his performance in the DFL Supercup, this could be yet another fantastic year for Robert Lewandowski, who today turned 30.

There’s hardly a better striker in the game than the Pole. When he’s fully fit and motivated, he’s nearly unplayable. With his full focus now in Munich, Robert Lewandowski should be a star yet again for the Bavarian giants during the ’18-19 season.
