Jerome Boateng seems set on a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, but the Parisians may not be able afford the Bayern Munich man.

The interest from Manchester United in Jerome Boateng was short lived. The Red Devils were only willing to pay half the €50 million value Bayern Munich placed on the player. With United out of the race, Paris Saint-Germain are  again favorites to land Jerome Boateng if he leaves this summer.

Thomas Tuchel has listed Boateng as one of his top priorities in the summer window. According to the ever-reliable Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, the defender’s agent is meeting in Paris today to advance negotiations for a move.

Boateng reciprocates Tuchel’s interest in working together and is keen on making one final move as he enters the closing stages of his career. PSG fulfill his requirement of being a big club capable of competing for Champions League titles for the next few years.

More from Bayern Strikes

One area where the Parisians may not meet qualifications, however, is in FIFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations. Sky Germany reporter Torben Hoffmann (another reliable Bayern insider) claims PSG aren’t willing or able to meet Bayern’s €50 million asking price due to FFP.

The French giants have run into many issues with FFP since their record-breaking Neymar acquisition last summer. Since then, big money moves, such as a €135 million fee paid to Monaco to make Kylian Mbappe’s transfer permanent, have kept the club under close watch by FIFA.

Though there’s likely a work-around for the deal, PSG must be extra careful not to break any FFP rules and risk losing their place in European competitions.

A move seems to be getting closer and closer for Boateng, but that hasn’t stopped his new coach or teammates from expressing their desire for him to stay in Munich. Arjen Robben was the most recent Bayern star to show his teammate some love (via Bild).

"“Jerome is one of the best center-backs in the world. We have had a lot of success together and known each other for a long time. He is important for the team, but our leadership is competent enough to make a good decision.”"

Robben isn’t the only one who hopes Boateng stays. The German may be injury prone, but is still one of the finest center-backs in Europe.

Next. Bayern Munich must not sell Jerome Boateng this summer. dark

If he leaves Bayern, the club has no plans to sign a replacement. Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule would be expected to perform the majority of Bayern’s central defensive duties, with Javi Martinez providing some help as well. Bayern Munich would be much better off, though, keeping a veteran defender like Boateng in their ranks.
