Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hints his club could sell a few more players before the summer transfer window closes.

Bayern Munich officially sold Arturo Vidal to Barcelona on Monday. Vidal had been linked with a move away from the German champions since the arrival of Leon Goretzka on a free transfer was announced in January.

Bayern are looking to trim their squad as Niko Kovac has admitted that he needs a smaller group of players. While speaking with Sport Bild, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisted that the club is open to more departures. He further added that Bayern have a lot of players in the midfield department and that would be the first area of the squad that needs trimming.

"“It’s normal that there are a lot of rumors coming in during the transfer season and it is well known that we have nine midfielders and a maximum of three to four positions.“Both we and the coach are of the opinion that if one player or the other wants to leave, we will deal with it seriously.”"

Along with the arrival of Goretzka, Renato Sanches will also feature for Bayern this season. Sanches endured a tough loan spell at Swansea City last season, but Kovac is eager to work with the Portuguese midfielder despite this poor loan spell. With other stars like James Rodriguez and Thiago Alcantara in the Bavarian ranks, playing time will be hard to come by for some players.

More from Bayern Strikes

Thiago was reportedly another midfielder Bayern were ready to offload this summer. The Spaniard was rumored to want a return to Barcelona, but there haven’t been any concrete moves for the player.

Furthermore, Thiago now seems happy in Munich, and the Bayern board have confirmed on multiple occasions that the Spaniard remains an important part of their plans for the future.

Sebastian Rudy has also been linked with a summer transfer. The German would command a much smaller transfer fee than that of this Spanisht teammate.  Schalke, Napoli and RB Leipzig are among the clubs that have been linked with Rudy in recent months.

The Bavarians might also sell a couple of defenders before the deadline day. Juan Bernat has been heavily linked with a transfer away from the club, with only one year left on his current contract. Bayern would like to cash in on the left-back rather than lose him on a free transfer next summer.

Jerome Boateng has also been tipped to leave the club this summer. Paris-Saint Germain are the favorites to land him despite some late interest from Manchester United. The English club reportedly had a ludicrously low bid rejected for the German defender.  Bayern Munich want a fee in the region of €50 million for Boateng, and United offered half that.

The German giants do not intentdto buy any replacements for the players who leave. They’re only looking to sell this summer. The next few weeks could be a busy time for the club as they seek to trim their squad and help Niko Kovac avoid too many selection headaches this season.
