English club Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich duo Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara.

The German champions are ready to offload a number of big players in this transfer window, who have been deemed surplus to requirements at the club. Bayern Munich are yet to receive any offer for many of these players, though. As they prepare to kick off their pre-season tomorrow against Paris Saint-Germain, the Bavarians are likely to step up in the transfer window so they can decrease the size of squad.

Bayern might be offered a solution to this problem by Manchester United. According to a report by Independent, the Red Devils are set to make a move for Thiago Alcantara and Robert Lewandowski. The Spaniard was subject to interest from United in 2013 before joining Bayern Munich. Jose Mourinho is reportedly a big fan of Lewandowski since his Borussia Dortmund days. This report suggests that the Portuguese boss is now eager to work with the Polish forward at United.

Thiago, meanwhile, is rumored to be waiting for Barcelona to make a move for him as he is interested in moving back to his boyhood club. Bayern officials, however, have maintained their stance that Thiago remains part of next season’s plans.

More from Bayern Strikes

But many reports suggest that Bayern are ready to sell him, as they have a surplus of midfielders in the squad. Leon Goretzka joined Bayern from Schalke in this summer, while Renato Sanches is set to stay at the club after a loan spell in England.

Lewandowski, on the other hand, is considered a key player for Bayern Munich, who are not ready to listen any offers for the Polish forward. Earlier this summer, Lewandowski’s agent had admitted that his client wants to leave Bayern. However, after an subpar World Cup campaign, the Polish forward has reportedly decided to stay at the club.

Thiago remained tight-lipped when he was asked about his future at the club during the World Cup. The Spaniard is 27-years-old and still has a lot of time left in his prime. With all the midfield talent at their disposal, though, his sale makes sense for the Bavarians. Moreover, he has two years left on his current contract which allow Bayern to get a significant fee for him.

The English transfer window will be over as soon as Premier League starts on August 9th. Bayern Munich will be able to get a huge fee for Thiago if Manchester United are desperate to get his signature. It will take a lot for the deal to be concluded as United have not yet even opened dialogue with Bayern. The Red Devils should forget about signing Lewandowski as Bayern are not going to sell him in this window.
