Robert Lewandowski wants to discuss his importance to Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski reportedly wants to hold talks with the club officials about his importance to the squad.
Robert Lewandowski is currently on holiday as his future at Bayern Munich remains in the balance. The Polish striker endured a terrible World Cup campaign as Poland were knocked out in the group stage without so much as scoring a goal. Lewandowski is likely to return to first team training by the end of this month, but isn’t quite ready to get straight back to work.
According to a report in Sport Bild, Lewandowski wants to hold talks with Bayern officials before joining the team for pre-season training. The Polish striker is unhappy with the lack of support and backing he has received from the club during recent months. Lewandowski reportedly feels that he has been made a scapegoat for Bayern’s Champions League failure.
The German champions ended the ’17-18 season in a whimper. Their Champions League campaign concluded with a semifinal defeat against Real Madrid, and Lewandowski came under a lot of scrutiny due to his poor performances against the Spanish giants.

There were reports about him being unprofessional in training around that time. However, Jupp Heynckes quickly dismissed these reports and even praised Lewandowski at that time for his hard work.
Lewandowski came under fire yet again after the Bavarians’ DFB Pokal defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, despite putting his name on the scoresheet.
Earlier this summer, Lewandowski’s agent admitted that the striker has demanded a transfer from the German champions. However, Bayern Munich have always said that the forward is not going to be sold at any price.
Real Madrid has been Lewandowski’s dream destination, but the interest has not been reciprocated. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus, Real Madrid might come calling for Lewandowski, but it’s still doubtful. The Bavarians are unlikely to listen for any fee less than the world record fee which Paris Saint-Germain paid for Neymar last summer anyway. Chelsea and PSG have also been linked with Lewandowski this summer, but he is reportedly not interested in joining either club.
After a poor World Cup campaign, it is unlikely Lewandowski will leave Bayern this summer. The German reports now suggest that Lewandowski is not agitating to leave the club this summer. He is now more than happy to stay in Munich amidst lack of interest from other top European clubs. His current contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2021 and he will likely see that out.

Lewandowski has been a talismanic figure for Bayern Munich since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2014. He has scored over 40 goals for Bayern in each of the past three seasons. Bayern Munich have not won Champions League for several years. The Bavarians are likely to give Lewandowski all the assurances, as he remains a key player for them, and his contributions will be very important in their chase for a first Champions League title since 2013.
