Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly pondering a move for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

The futures of some senior players at Bayern Munich are uncertain. Jerome Boateng is tipped to leave the club, as Bayern are supposedly ready to listen offers for him. The German has even spoken eagerly about a move abroad in the past few months.

According to Paris United, Boateng has emerged as a transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain. This report suggests that the Ligue 1 champions have already presented a lucrative contract to the player. Thomas Tuchel is reportedly eager to sign Boateng in order to use a three man defense next season.

Paris United has been fairly reliable about transfer news related to Paris Saint-Germain in the past. Contrary to this report, however, many German reports believe there has been no concrete interest in Boateng shown by any club. It is highly possible that Boateng ends up staying with the German Champions.

More from Bayern Strikes

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted last month that Bayern will entertain big offers for Boateng. Since then, Boateng has endured a terrible World Cup campaign with Germany.

The defending World champions were knocked out in the group stage. Boateng was Germany’s worst performer in defense and was suspended for the final group game against South Korea thanks to a silly red card he picked up against Sweden.

Boateng’s current contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2021. The former Manchester City defender turns 30 next season. This is probably the last chance for the club to cash in for Boateng. He has been struggling with injuries and form in the past two years. A change of scenery would perhaps help Boateng get back to his best. But his poor performances in Russia have hardly helped Bayern’s cause of getting a big fee.

Niklas Sule enjoyed an excellent debut season at Bayern Munich. The 22-year-old defender got ample amount of gametime, and he grabbed his opportunities with both hands. Sule is eventually expected to replace Boateng in the starting lineup. If Niko Kovac is planning to use a three-man defense, then all three German center-backs will be very important next season.

Bayern are also reportedly interested in signing Benjamin Pavard in 2019. This transfer indicates that Bayern are planning for life without Boateng. It remains to be seen whether he leaves this year or next summer. Boateng has been a pivotal player for Bayern Munich for the better part of this past decade. The time has arrived that they end this association, though, as that would be the best solution for all parties.
