Bayern Munich should sell Jerome Boateng this summer if an acceptable offer for the 29-year-old defender comes their way.
Jerome Boateng remained quiet when he was asked about his future just before Germany’s first game against Mexico last week. The German defender has previously admitted that he might leave Bayern Munich to experience a new adventure in a different country and league.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also said last week that his club might sell Boateng. The Bayern CEO insisted that the German champions will only sell Boateng, though, if a substantial offer arrives this summer. Since then, Juventus have been linked with a move for the German center-back, along with English giants Manchester United.
In Wednesday’s edition of Sport Bild further details surrounding the potential transfer of Boateng were mentioned. The reliable Christian Falk believes that Bayern Munich want a fee in the range of €50-60 million for Boateng. However, if no offer arrives then Boateng is unlikely to agitate for a move and honor his contract with the club that expires in 2021.

This report also focusses on the options Boateng is likely to have if he decides to leave Bayern. The defender is dreaming of a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid in Spain. However,
the Spanish giants have not expressed any interest in Boateng. Both Manchester clubs and Paris-Saint Germain are the teams showing interest in Boateng. Manchester United reportedly tried to sign Boateng last summer, but he was injured during the transfer window.
Since the ’15-16 season, Boateng has struggled with numerous injuries. He was able to feature in 31 games last season despite his injury woes. The German defender is currently in the prime of his career. However, it is unlikely that he is going to get back to his best form, which he showed in his earlier years at Bayern Munich. This is probably the last summer window where Bayern might be able get a significant fee for the defender.
Bayern Munich reportedly believe that Niklas Sule is ready to take place of Boateng in the starting lineup. The young German defender impressed in his debut campaign for the Bavarians. Sule’s consistent performances for Bayern earned him a place in Germany’s World Cup squad. The German Champions might try to bring a young defender to increase the depth in that department. Benjamin Pavard, Matthijs De Ligt and Kevin Vogt have all been linked with a move to Bayern.

Boateng has been an immense player for Bayern Munich in the past. He has helped the club in winning numerous trophies, especially the memorable treble in 2013. But now is the right time for the club to move on, as this transfer will only benefit all parties involved. Things will likely accelerate after the World Cup, and Bayern will be hoping that there is a bidding war for the player’s signature.
