Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus believes that his former club should consider selling Spanish midfielder Thiago in the summer.
The Bavarians will be looking to conclude their business early in the transfer window, due to the upcoming World Cup. There is speculation surrounding the future of some players at Bayern Munich. Thiago Alcantara is one player who has occasionally been linked with a move away from Bavaria, but no serious reports have emerged suggesting the player will leave.
However, former Bayern Munich defender Lothar Matthaus believes that the club should consider selling the Spaniard. In an interview with SportBild, Matthaus said that Thiago pointed out that Thiago has failed to deliver for Bayern in big games. He also criticized his performance against Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB Pokal final.
"“Thiago hasn’t made the difference in the big games. I actually rate him but he’s been a shadow of his former self recently.“I don’t know where his head is. With these performances, he’s not a player for Bayern Munich. If a suitable offer is on the table, then Bayern should think about it.”"

Thiago joined Bayern Munich in 2013 from Barcelona for €25 million. Pep Guardiola brought him to the club after previously working with him at Barcelona. The Spanish manager is reportedly eager to bring him at Manchester City.
The Spaniard’s first two seasons at the club were disastrous due to injuries. He was only able to feature in 38 games across his first two season with the Bavarian giants. However, he has emerged as a big player for die Roten in the past two seasons.
After Guardiola’s departure, Thiago struck his best form in a red shirt under Carlo Ancelotti. The Spaniard became a key player under Ancelotti. Thiago often featured in a deeper role under the Italian manager.
However, this season was a little more disappointing for Thiago. After Carlo parted ways with Bayern, Thiago missed three months of the season due to injury. He was not able to break back into the lineup straightaway after his return, due to the good form of James Rodriguez and Thomas Muller.
The German champions will have plenty of midfield options next season. Leon Goretzka is set to join in the summer from Schalke, while Renato Sanches will also return from his loan spell at Swansea City. There are doubts surrounding the future of Arturo Vidal, who is currently recovering from a knee injury. And Sebastian Rudy has also been linked with a move away from the club. Regardless, competition for places in Bayern’s midfield will be intense next season.

Thiago has always admitted that he is happy at Bayern and wants to spend his peak years in Germany. The Spaniard signed a two-year extension with the club last year, and his current deal expires in 2021. He still remains a key player for Bayern and provides something different in midfield compared to other players at the club.
