According to a report from Bild, sources have confirmed that Niko Kovac is set to take over as Bayern Munich manager at the end of the season.

Is this getting a little confusing for anyone else? There’s yet another turn in the tale of Bayern Munich‘s search for a new manager. Just over a week after Niko Kovac poured cold water on the rumors linking him with Bayern’s managerial post, Bild reports that the 46-year-old is already confirmed as the club’s next coach.

Only five days ago it was reported by Fussball News that Julian Nagelsmann would be the guy to take over at the end of the season. The young Hoffenheim manager quickly denied those reports himself.

But today’s news is coming from Bild, Christian Falk himself even. The German journalist has established quite the reputation for himself throughout recent years. When it comes to Bayern Munich news, there are few as reliable as Bild‘s chief of fussball.

Niko Kovac, though not the most experienced of coaches, is honestly one of the best available options for Bayern Munich. Especially if the club is adamant on hiring a German-speaking manager, they could do much worse than the Croatian.

He’s led an admirable turnaround at Eintracht Frankfurt, shaping the club into one of the Bundesliga’s most formidable forces. Furthermore, he has experience managing big-name players, thanks to his time spent as manager of Croatia’s national team.

More from Bayern Strikes

He may not be the biggest name when it comes to managers, but that’s probably okay. Kovac knows the club well thanks to his time spent in Bavaria as a player. He’s young, too, and can devote time to developing the club for the future.

At 46-years-old, and with a pretty substantial playing career under his belt, he’s much more likely to be respected by veteran players than someone like Julian Nagelsmann. He also seems much less volatile than previous favorite Thomas Tuchel.

Should the report from Bild prove true, there are undoubtedly many Bayern fans who would be a bit disappointed. They shouldn’t be. Kovac, though not a superstar, blends many necessary traits of what Bayern are looking for in their next manager.

This is certainly a developing story worth keeping your eye on. Bayern have previously promised to announce their new manager before the end of April, so an official confirmation from the club could be coming sooner rather than later.
