Thomas Muller backs Philipp Lahm to return to Bayern Munich in the future
Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller believes that former captain Philipp Lahm has all the necessary traits to do well in a new role at the club.
The former Bayern Munich captain ended his playing career at the end of ’16-17 season. Lahm has been enjoying retirement while playing an ambassadorial role for the club. The German ended his career on a high by winning the fifth successive Bundesliga last year.
Lahm has been tipped to play a major role at Bayern Munich even though his playing days are over. While talking to Sky Germany (via Goal), Thomas Muller has backed Lahm to do well at the club in a different role. The raumdeuter believes that Lahm’s knowledge about the club will help him perform well in an administrative role.
"“Philipp is always someone who will be in the debate with FC Bayern, if somewhere a position is available.“He has lived the FC Bayern way and is someone who thinks outside the box. He has the necessary experience, knows the club inside out and of course already offers a lot. Otherwise he would not have been a candidate for the sports director post last summer.”"
Bayern Munich have always followed the model in which they have involved their former players in club’s administration. Karl Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness are among the key members of the decision making group of the club. The duo were part of the club during the majority of their playing career.

Lahm has been considered as one of the most intelligent players of the modern game. The German was praised by Pep Guardiola for his footballing intelligence.
Bayern Munich will no doubt seek to use Lahm’s intelligence and talents to their benefit in the near future.
The Bavarians straightaway offered the role of Sporting Director to Lahm after he announced his retirement. However, the former right-back rejected it as he reportedly wanted a break from soccer. Bayern Munich subsequently hired their former player Hasan Salihamidzic in this role earlier this season.
Muller also spoke about the managerial situation at the club. The Bavarian believes that it is not necessary for the next coach to be German.
Muller has rediscovered his best form under Jupp Heynckes after the German took over in September. Whoever succeeds Heynckes would do well to follow in his footsteps by seeking to get the best out of Thomas Muller.
