Bayern Munich striker Sandro Wagner has reportedly emerged as a January transfer target for Turkish side Galatasaray.

There have numerous reports about potential Bayern Munich transfers in the past few weeks. The Bavarians are set to refresh their squad next summer. replacing their veteran players with young, budding talent.

Several names have been mentioned as potential candidates to rejuvenate Bayern’s aging attack. However, there haven’t been too many suggestions about the club’s plans to facilitate the departures.

The players whose contracts expire at the end of the season (Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Rafinha) are likely to be released, while other fringe players might be offered to clubs across Europe. Sandro Wagner is one of the few players at Bayern who might fear for his future at the club in the summer.

More from Bayern Strikes

According to a report from Dirilpostasi, Wagner has been offered to Galatasaray. The Turkish giants are on the hunt for a striker to sign during the January transfer window, and Wagner is one of the candidates for this role. This Turkish outlet reports that the German striker has been offered on a six-month loan, starting from January. They have also mentioned the financial details of the proposed transfer in this report.

Germany’s Sport Bild quickly gave an update on the situation. They insist that Wagner is not considering his future at the club right now, and it will be a huge surprise if he leaves Bayern in January. The constant injuries to attacking players this season will not allow the Bavarians to think about any departures in the winter transfer window.

Bayern Munich brought Wagner back to the club last January to help manage the workload of striker Robert Lewandowski. The German enjoyed a decent six-month spell under Jupp Heynckes. He scored 9 goals in 18 appearances for Bayern in the second half of the season. He is an ideal backup striker who has a knack of scoring goals, so he knows how to make a good impact from the bench.

The former Hoffenheim man has struggled to find adequate game time under Niko Kovac this season, though. Kovac has started Lewandowski in almost every game this season. Wagner has scored only once in his eight appearances, which includes only two starts. The German expressed his dissatisfaction about his lack game time after a narrow win over SV Rodinghausen a few weeks ago.

Wagner has already retired from international duty, so a bit part role might not do a lot of harm to him. The German has done a decent job in his short tenure at the club and can still play a massive role in the second half of this season. Wagner is more likely to consider his future at Bayern Munich in the summer if he continues to get little playing time and/or Bayern bring in another young striker like Luka Jovic.
