Why does Bayern Munich hesitate to give game time to young players?

Despite struggling to build squad depth for the upcoming season, Bayern Munich have been reluctant to give opportunities to young players.

The list goes on and on...

Under the current regime, Bayern paints a picture of unrealized potential. In 2019/20, when the first team achieved the legendary Treble, the second team also completed an unimaginable feat. Comprising mostly young talents, Bayern Munich II won the 3. Liga emphatically. Those players are expected to continue the footsteps of their predecessors and build a long-term dominance for Die Roten.

However, after five years, only two players in that squad are playing for Bayern Munich: Josip Stanisic and Jamal Musiala. Both are extremely quality players and have made their mark on the grand stage. The rest of the talent pool can make other teams salivate, yet, in hindsight, it only makes Bayern fans wonder what could have been. Some notable players include Crystal Palace's Chris Richards, Braga's Bright Arrey-Mbi, Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller, Celtic's Nicholas Kuhn, Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee, and Bayer Leverkusen's maiden signing Malik Tillman.

Out of all the academy products, Kenan Yildiz probably makes the board kick themselves over his departure the most. The Turkish crown jewel has turned himself into one of the most explosive left-wingers in the world at Juventus. Yildiz could be the perfect addition for Bayern Munich at the moment. But instead of being on a free, he may cost the club a fortune if Max Eberl decides to pursue.

Academy alumni aside, Bayern has also spent a lot of money bringing in top wonderkids from other clubs, such as Mathys Tel and Ryan Gravenberch. But their fates both come to a lackluster ending: being turned into little profits without establishing themselves at the Allianz Arena.
