What went wrong tactically for Bayern Munich in draw with Borussia Dortmund
By Tom Vinall
The lack of use of Michael Olise was absolutely bizarre, and the weirdest decision of them all. The Frenchman had been in and out of the team recently, so it wasn't a case of being rested here. Furthermore, Kim seemed to pick up a bump, so even then his introduction was enforced rather than a conscious choice.
Assuming Kim is fine, which he seems to be, then it is a good thing he got that bump, because within five minutes, Olise had an assist. Now imagine Kim played on, Olise didn't come on, and Bayern were condemned to a 1-0 defeat.
Thomas Müller's status as a club legend is unanimous. However, him coming on for Harry Kane after his injury cost Bayern a win. The 35-year-old had at least one, arguably two, big chances to score yesterday, and missed both.
It would have made more sense to reshuffle the attack - Tel up front, Olise off the right, and Sané off the left - at the point that Kane was withdrawn. With the news that the England captain is set to miss the next couple of weeks, it will be interesting to see if Tel gets his chance through the middle.
