Conclusion
The loss on Wednesday means that the record German champions have now lost all three of their matches played on foreign soil so far this season in Europe’s elite club competition. It embodied just about everything that was detrimental in the earlier losses in the competition to Aston Villa and Barcelona.
Bayern can still possibly finish in the top eight, and qualify directly for the knockout stage of the competition with a hefty victory, at home, over winless Slovan Bratislava on the final matchday of the league phase. However, it would be all for naught unless the unnecessary mistakes in defense and profligacy in attack are remedied. It’s back to the drawing board for Vincent Kompany, although he is not solely to be blamed.
