Mistakes at the back resulted in the 2-0 half-time deficit
We’ve seen this movie before and by now Bayern fans have every reason to be tired of it. Once again, despite dominating possession, Kompany’s side conceded from the opposition’s first attempt on goal. All it took was a hopeful long ball which Kim Min-jae misjudged and Santiago Gimenez was through on goal to make it 1-0 for the hosts from close range. Admirers of Kim Min-jae may point to the fact that the South Korean defender was playing with a sore knee and discomfort in his Achilles tendon, but the manner in which the goal was conceded was all too familiar.
When Raphael Guerreiro, who had replaced the injured Alphonso Davies, gifted the hosts a penalty in added time at the end of the first half, with an unnecessary challenge, to make it 2-0 the writing was on the wall.
