What went wrong for Bayern Munich in Barcelona?
Bayern Munich succumbed to a second consecutive defeat in the Champions League as FC Barcelona clinched a comfortable 4-1 win against them on Wednesday.
Rare poor performance from Joshua Kimmich
Less than a minute into the game, with Bayern applying the high defensive line, Joshua Kimmich got a touch onto Fermin Lopez’s through ball but it made no difference as Raphinha, the intended target, comfortably took the ball in stride before rounding Manuel Neuer to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
Despite his best efforts, the German Captain just couldn’t influence the game in Bayern’s favour. Kimmich had just 66 touches in the game and won just one of six ground duels contested. The 29-year-old midfielder isn’t to be blamed for the loss, but his subpar performance embodied how the game unfolded for Bayern the longer it went on.
