The winter transfer window opens in two days. There will be a lot of reports linking players with a move to Bayern Munich. However, the club chiefs have consistently insisted that there will be no incomings in January.

On the departures front, there is speculation around the future of players who have entered the final six months of their contracts. Leon Goretzka is facing this situation as he has been linked with several clubs over the past couple of weeks.

The German midfielder is yet to receive a contract offer from Die Roten. The Bavarian club is not weighing up a new deal for the German international as they are looking at several young midfielders to replace him in the summer. Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli, Fenerbahce, and Atletico Madrid have shown interest in Goretzka for a winter transfer.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Vincent Kompany holds Goretzka in high regard. The Belgian coach doesn’t want to lose Goretzka and values his contributions on the pitch.

Meanwhile, The Athletic has poured cold water on the reports linking Goretzka to Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League side is not negotiating a move for the German midfielder. Goretzka is also firmly focusing on the second half of the season with Die Roten.

Goretzka has an important role to play at Bayern during Ruckrunde

Aleksandar Pavlovic has moved ahead of Goretzka in the pecking order for the second midfield spot in the starting XI. The young midfielder delivered several strong performances in the center of the park during Hinrunde.

Goretzka had to be content with gametime from the bench. Despite losing his spot in the starting XI, Goretzka has a role to play in the second half of the season. His experience will be crucial in the big Champions League knockout games. Moreover, Goretzka is a reliable performer in different positions. He can slot in the defense or become a box-crashing attacking midfielder if the game situation demands. A player of his ilk will be of great use for Die Roten as they look to win three trophies.

As things stand, Kompany looks content with the squad he has at his disposal. Apart from Sacha Boey, Bayern are not expected to part ways with any senior player during the winter transfer window. With Die Roten competing in three competitions, Kompany will need every player to be at their best during the second half of the season.
