Bayern Munich are well placed to win another treble. After Borussia Dortmund’s defeat on Saturday, Bayern can seal the Bundesliga title on Sunday with a win against VfB Stuttgart. It will be a second consecutive Bundesliga title for Vincent Kompany.

The Bavarian club has booked a place in the semi-final of the Champions League after clinching a 6-4 aggregate win over Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. Bayern will be facing Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the competition.

The Champions League will take a backseat next week as Bayern gear up for a DFB Pokal semi-final away at Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

Along with results, Bayern have played incredible attacking football this season. They already hold the record for scoring the most goals in a single Bundesliga season. With five games in hand, they can break the record for most goals for a team in a single campaign across the top five leagues in Europe.

Kompany has been brilliant since replacing Thomas Tuchel at Bayern in 2024. Bayern had lost the league title to Bayer Leverkusen, and they didn’t go deep in cup competitions during the 2023/24 campaign. While talking to Podcast Auf eine weiß-blaue Tasse (via iMiaSanMia), Uli Hoeness highlighted the key difference between Kompany and his predecessor. It is fair to say Hoeness didn’t hesitate while criticising Tuchel.

"Two things are important. Kompany makes every player better. And I've never seen him conduct a press conference where he said: I need a left-back, I need a right-back, as was the case under Tuchel. When the team didn't play well, he never questioned himself; it was always the team's fault. So these are all things that are unacceptable. And that's the big difference."

Hoeness is spot on with his assessment about Kompany and Tuchel

There is no doubt about the fact that Thomas Tuchel is one of the best coaches in the world. However, his tenure at Bayern was nothing but disappointment from the word go. The German coach hardly took any responsibility for the lack of major silverware during his 18 months in charge.

Tuchel’s request for transfers during press conferences certainly painted a picture of discontent between all parties behind the scenes. It led to a poor environment at Bayern, which was reflected in the team’s results on the pitch.

On the other hand, Vincent Kompany has brought a lot of calmness and intensity to Bayern. The Belgian coach is a fantastic man-manager and tactical astute coach. His positive approach on and off the pitch has helped him to make an immediate impact in Munich.

It was not a big surprise when Bayern moved quickly to extend Kompany’s contract earlier this season. There will be plenty of interest from Bayern’s European rivals in Kompany due to his incredible work in Bavaria. Die Roten have secured themselves by extending his contract until 2029.
