Manuel Neuer

Bayern Munich decided to spend a hefty fee to sign Manuel Neuer from Bundesliga rivals Schalke in 2011. The total fee was reportedly close to €25 million, including add-ons. It was a significant fee for a goalkeeper at that time, but Neuer made sure that it turned into a bargain deal.

The German goalkeeper has redefined the goalkeeping era where goalkeepers are not just shot-stoppers. Neuer has been operating as an outfield player for Bayern when the team has the ball. He has made 538 appearances for Die Roten in the last 13 years and kept 255 clean sheets across all competitions. Neuer is eighth in the all-time appearances record for Bayern and third in most appearances as a goalkeeper for Die Roten.

In terms of success on the pitch, Neuer has been a consistent performer for Bayern over the last decade. He has been the best goalkeeper in the world for several years and is still going strong at the age of 38. Neuer has won two trebles at Bayern and won every possible trophy with Die Roten.

It remains to be seen if Neuer will be at Bayern next season as he enters the twilight of his career. However, the Bavarian faithful will be thankful for the service he has provided to Bayern over the last 13 years. His incredible shot-stopping ability and audacious passes from the goal ensured Bayern fans wouldn’t have to worry about the goalkeeping position for several years. (Stats courtesy- Transfermarkt)
