Team showed great composure while defending

Bayern Munich have looked defensively vulnerable in their last three games before the win against VfB Stuttgart. They conceded big opportunities, which have led to questions about Vincent Kompany’s risky style of high-pressing football.

Kompany’s men responded to the criticism with a solid defensive performance against Stuttgart on Saturday. The back four worked brilliantly, making sure there were no mistakes that would give an edge to the visitors. The entire team defended well and conceded just one shot in the game, and Stuttgart managed to accumulate a meager xG of 0.51.

Bayern should look to build on this defensive performance and become a team hard to score against. They have been one of the best teams in possession across Europe this season. If Die Roten manage to achieve similar stability in defense, silverware will certainly arrive at Allianz Arena later this season.

The upcoming game against FC Barcelona will be a good test for Bayern’s defensive structure. The Spanish club has Europe's best-performing attacking trio of the season- Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha. A clean sheet in Barcelona will certainly suggest that Die Roten are getting closer to becoming a defensively resolute team. (Stats courtesy: Fotmob)
