How did Bayern respond?

The first-half struggle forced Kompany to make changes in the second half. Instead of staying forward in the opponent's half, Raphael Guerreiro and Josip Stanisic roamed around the halfway mark in the build-up phase. This subtle change made a world of difference for Bayern, at least in the developmental part of the attack. Extra players alleviated the damage Celtic's two-man high press system could have done on the backline. Guerreiro, in particular, frequently stayed level with Kim and Upamecano to maintain the three-man composition. The presence of the Portuguese international helped push Goretzka and Kimmich to the midfield more often as they are more comfortable operating in that area than others. As a result, Bayern played a much more fluid football in the latter half from a distribution standpoint.

Kompany is still the center of media attention for the disappointing outcome of merely a draw at home. However, one might argue that individual mistakes and underwhelming outputs in the final third were things that cost Bayern in this game. In this particular verse we just discussed, the Belgian coach showed that he can be flexible and adaptable when identifying an issue with his tactic. And that should be something worth complimenting.
