Will Mathys Tel leave Bayern Munich on loan in January?
Bayern Munich are enjoying a solid start to the season. The Bavarian club started their Champions League campaign earlier this week with an emphatic 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb. Vincent Kompany has managed to get the best out of most forwards at Bayern in the early phase of the season.
Mathys Tel is the only Bayern forward who has not had a goal or assist this season. The French winger has endured a difficult start to the campaign. Tel has made two appearances this season, accumulating a game time of just 76 minutes.
According to Bild, a loan move away from Bayern can become an option for Tel in January or next summer if he struggles to get adequate playing time under Vincent Kompany this season. The French winger doesn’t want to be limited to a super substitute as he was for Thomas Tuchel last campaign.
There are no active talks for a move away from Bayern right now, as Tel is focused on doing well for Die Roten. He remains part of the long-term plans at Bayern. The Bavarian club extended his contract until 2029, earlier this year, to fend off interest from several European clubs. Manchester United were reportedly considering a summer move for Tel before he signed a new deal at Bayern.
Tel has a crucial role to play for Bayern this season
It is understandable for Tel to be frustrated about his current situation, but he still has a crucial role to play for Bayern as the season progresses. Bayern need the entire squad to contribute on the pitch to go deep into all competitions. They are unlikely to sanction a loan move for Tel midway through the season.
Tel chipped in with 14 goals and seven assists for Die Roten in 49 appearances last season. Most of these appearances came from the bench. Tuchel believed Tel was better equipped to make an impact from the bench instead of starting games. The next step in Tel’s development is to start games regularly and be an attacking threat over 90 minutes.
There is also a possibility of Kingsley Coman leaving Bayern in January. The French winger was allowed to leave in the summer, but he decided to stay in Munich. A move away from Bavaria in the winter transfer window is a strong possibility for Coman. Tel’s game time will be significantly boosted if Coman ends up leaving Die Roten in the winter transfer window.
As the season progresses and games come thick and fast, Tel will get his opportunities. He needs to continue working hard in training and wait for his chances. Bayern are not going to give up on him anytime soon. Unless he forces a loan move, Die Roten will keep him beyond this season.
