Kompany's aggressive style of possession-based football suits Bayern

Initially, with Anderlecht, Kompany used a 4-3-3 formation. He eventually switched to a 4-4-2 formation. However, his version of the 4-4-2 was not as pragmatically defensive as is typical of the formation. His full-backs were involved throughout play, like how an in-form Alphonso Davies operates for Bayern Munich.

In his first season at Burnley (2022/23) with an innovative 4-4-2 formation, the team won the English Football League Championship to gain promotion to the EPL by playing a modern-day possession-based style of football.

Even though Burnley were relegated at the end of the recently concluded 2023/24 season, Kompany and the team stayed true to themselves by playing attacking football. It’s fair to say that a club like Bayern Munich is much better suited to playing the way Kompany envisions.
