Bayern Munich got their loan deals on the money last summer. Alexander Nubel enjoyed a productive loan spell at VfB Stuttgart, helping them to finish second in the Bundesliga. Josip Stanisic played a crucial role in Bayer Leverkusen’s domestic double-winning campaign. The Croatian defender will report for pre-season training at Bayern after a successful year at Leverkusen.
Bayer Leverkusen want to have Stanisic in the squad for next season. They are expected to make a bid for him, but Bayern have different plans for the versatile Croatian defender. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Vincent Kompany wants Stanisic to stay at Bayern next season.
Stanisic will attract interest from other clubs after his positive performances for Bayer Leverkusen. Die Roten are expected to rebuff interest in the 24-year-old defender, but Leverkusen will keenly follow his situation during the summer transfer window.
Bayern sent Stanisic on loan last summer since Thomas Tuchel couldn’t guarantee adequate game time. The German coach wouldn't have sanctioned the loan move if he was already aware of not getting a replacement for Benjamin Pavard. Nevertheless, Stanisic’s immediate future is in Bavaria. While talking to Kicker, Max Eberl insisted that Stanisic will have an important role to play for Bayern next season.
Stanisic played well for Bayern under Julian Nagelsmann. The German coach trusted him in several positions during his tenure at the club. The Croatian defender repaid Nagelsmann’s faith by showing consistency in his performances, which included doing well in the big games.
The 24-year-old defender can play in both full-back positions. He is secure on the ball and defends well against tricky wingers. Stanisic can also slot in the heart of the defense if the team needs him to do so. Considering the tactical flexibility Stanisic provides, he is a good player to have in the squad.
Stanisic will have adequate competition in both full-back positions at Bayern next season. The Bavarian club already has two options in each full-back position. The Croatian defender may prefer a loan move in the summer unless there is a significant departure in the full-back position at Bayern.
The 24-year-old defender has two years left on his contract. After a productive loan spell, Bayern may offer him a new contract. If he pushes for a move away from Bavaria, Die Roten will be better served by a permanent deal with a buy-back option in the future. There will be more clarity about Stanisic’s future after the pre-season tour.
