It was a happy start to the season for Bayern Munich as they came from behind in the second half against Wolfsburg to clinch a 3-2 victory. The performance from Bayern was a stark contrast across two halves.

Die Roten dominated the proceeding in the first half and gave no breathing space to Wolfsburg. The only thing lacking for visitors was the cutting edge in the final third. They couldn’t put Wolfsburg to the sword, which came back to haunt them at the start of the second half.

Bayern conceded two quick goals in the second half, which was down to the individual mistakes at the back. The Bavarian club suddenly found themselves 2-1 down despite dominating 90% of the game. Bayern often collapsed in such game scenarios last season away from home, but the trend was stopped on Sunday.

After conceding the second goal, Bayern regrouped and kept on creating chances to get back in the game. Die Roten were eventually rewarded with the win for showing perseverance and a strong mentality. While talking to the media after the game (via iMiaSanMia), Kompany hailed his team’s mentality to get back in the game despite suffering setbacks in the second half. Joshua Kimmich and Harry Kane also insisted that good attitude and mentality helped the team to deal with tough situations against Wolfsburg.

"I enjoyed my first game as Bundesliga coach. We were dominant in the first half and didn't concede any chances. The start of the second half wasn't good. We conceded twice, but in the end the mentality was good and that's why we won the game. I played football long enough and know that you can lose or draw such a game. The fact we won shows that the mentality was there, even though not everything was perfect. We have to say that honestly."

Wins like away at Wolfsburg can strengthen Bayern’s bid to reclaim league title

Bayern have to be at their best if they want to beat Bayer Leverkusen for the Bundesliga title this season. Xabi Alonso’s team has been outstanding in terms of finding ways to win every weekend. They scored a stoppage-time winner against Borussia Monchengladbach. The defending champions have developed a knack for finding ways to win games when they are not at their best.

Die Roten cannot afford to drop points in the league since the impressive Bayer Leverkusen side keeps churning out wins. The victory against Wolfsburg should be the norm for Bayern and Kompany even when the team is having a bad day. Winning games, even on their bad days, will strengthen Rekordmeister’s case of bringing the trophy back to Allianz Arena.

After a successful day on the road, Bayern will return to Allianz Arena on Sunday for their first home game of the season. They will host Freiburg in their second league game of the campaign. Vincent Kompany will look to build on the positives from the game against Wolfsburg and minimize the errors in the team.
