Vincent Kompany was pleased with the way Bayern Munich dominated proceedings against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday evening even if the result didn't go their way.
Bayern Munich continued their dominant run in the Bundesliga on Saturday but weren't able to turn their strong performance into a win as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern dominated proceedings from the get go and had Xabi Alonso's side under the cosh for the majority of the game.
But Leverkusen opened the scoring at the half hour mark thanks to Robert Andrich's goal. Aleksandar Pavlović then netted the equalizing goal for Bayern eight minutes later. And despite a barrage of chances falling Bayern's way, the game ended in a draw.
Vincent Kompany pleased with Bayern Munich performance against Bayer Leverkusen
For Vincent Kompany, his players delivered exactly the kind of performance he wanted to see. And he is confident that if they keep playing like this, they will win a lot of games this season.
"As Bayern coach, you always want to win at home," Kompany told Sky Sport after the game. "The way the game went was how we wanted it to go. The performance was as we had hoped. The counter-pressing was positive, we won a lot of the second balls, we created so many chances. It's important that we keep going and have confidence that we'll win a lot of games like this. It's a shame that we didn't win, but we've got a lot of games left."
Bayern Munich have made a strong start to their season and find themselves at the top of both the Bundesliga and the Champions League standings. The Bavarians have been scoring goals for fun in recent weeks, and will look to continue that run in the coming matches.
Next up for Vincent Kompany's side is a trip to England to take on Premier League side Aston Villa on matchday two of the league phase of the Champions League.
