Bayern Munich continued their fine start to the season against Freiburg on Sunday. The Bavarian club cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win at Allianz Arena to make it three wins in a row across all competitions. Apart from conceding the penalty late in the game, Bayern were totally in control of the game against Freiburg.
Vincent Kompany switched to a 4-1-4-1 formation as Die Roten looked to dominate the opposition from word go. They managed to dominate possession and create significant chances to clinch the victory. The Belgian coach will hope to see more goals from the team after the international break. The entire team had a good afternoon at Allianz Arena, but these three players stood out with their performances.
Serge Gnabry
After putting the injury woes from last season behind him, Serge Gnabry has been in fine form for Die Roten during the last two league games. He deservedly kept his place in the starting XI. Gnabry made sure Kompany’s decision to start him was justified by tormenting Freiburg’s defense consistently.
The German winger registered an assist for the crucial second goal that effectively killed the hopes of Freiburg coming back into the game. Apart from being a threat in the final third, Gnabry worked tirelessly out of possession. The German forward made six recoveries in the game, which highlights how much of an asset he will be for Kompany with and without the ball. If Gnabry continues this run of form, he will be back in the German squad for the games in October.
