Joshua Kimmich

After excelling in the midfield against Holstein Kiel on the weekend, Joshua Kimmich was expected to be moved to the right-back position due to the serious injury to Sacha Boey. The German international prefers playing in the midfield, but he remains an excellent right-back option for Die Roten. However, Kompany decided to deploy Raphaël Guerreiro in the right-back position.

Kimmich continued his good run of form in midfield. He was one of the best players on the pitch against Dinamo Zagreb. The German international was tidy with the ball, completing 90% of the passes he attempted on Tuesday evening. Kimmich made nine recoveries and won 75% of his ground duels.

The 29-year-old German international also provided two assists in the game, highlighting what an asset he can be in the final third while playing in the central midfield. He created five chances in a game that Bayern thoroughly dominated in terms of possession.

Kimmich may have to play in the right-back position for few games in the next couple of months until Boey and Josip Stanišić return from their respective injuries. However, his best qualities are better highlighted in the center of the park. The performance on Tuesday may force Kompany to play him consistently in midfield and use other players in the right-back position.
