Return of Leroy Sane

Vincent Kompany will receive a significant boost after the international break as Leroy Sane is close to making a return from a groin injury. The German winger has been training at Sabner Strasse over the last two weeks. If everything goes well, Sane should be part of the travelling squad to Holstein Kiel.

Sane underwent surgery in the summer to resolve a groin injury that troubled him during the second half of last season and Euros. His workload was managed by Die Roten during the business end of the last campaign. Sane will look to get back to his best after resolving this injury issue.

Despite not being 100% during the Ruckrunde, Sane’s performances gradually improved. His output in the final third needs to be consistent over a season, but his performances as a winger over the last 12 months have been promising.

Vincent Kompany was Sane’s teammate at Manchester City. The Belgian coach knows the strengths and weaknesses of the German winger. It will be intriguing to see how Sane fares under Kompany. Harry Kane has formed a good chemistry with Sane in the final third, so the English striker will be pleased to see Sane back in action.
