Ruben Amorim (Sporting Lisbon)

Bayern wanted a coach who could provide them with long-term stability. In Xabi Alonso, they were looking at a young coach who has already done a brilliant job in the Bundesliga. If they are sticking with the same criteria, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim will be a solid option for Bayern.

The Portuguese coach is considered one of the best upcoming coaches in Europe. He has done a terrific job at Sporting Lisbon, helping them to win the league title this season. Amorim also helped SC Braga punch above their weight and win a domestic cup competition.

Amorim’s teams press well and suffocate teams in their third. It was not surprising to see him feature on Liverpool’s list to replace Jurgen Klopp in the summer. With a good structure over him, Amorim certainly has the tactical nous to flourish at a big club. It will be a brave appointment from Bayern, but one that can help them to fulfill their long-term vision.

From a financial perspective, Amorim reportedly has a release clause worth €10 million in his contract at Sporting Lisbon. Since Bayern were ready to pay a hefty fee (€18 million) for Oliver Glasner, agreeing a compensation with Sporting shouldn’t be an issue.
