Three center-backs Bayern Munich can sign to replace Matthijs de Ligt
Trevoh Chalobah
Trevoh Chalobah was one of the transfer targets for Bayern last summer when they were looking to replace Benjamin Pavard. The English defender is on the transfer market this summer since he is not part of Chelsea’s plans for next season.
Chalobah has been a reliable defender for Chelsea over the last few seasons. He can certainly do a good job at Bayern as a third center-back. If Vincent Kompany is planning to use Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae as his first-choice center-back pairing for next season, a move for Chalobah will make a lot of sense.
In terms of strengths, Chalobah is a solid defender. He has the pace and strength to tackle physical and fast attacking players. The English defender is more than capable on the ball, making him a solid center-back option for most top clubs in Europe. Chalobah can also operate in the right-back position or the third defender in a back three, making him a tactically flexible option in defense.
Chalobah's recent injury history is the only concern that may jeopardize his transfer to a big club this summer. He had a horrid time with injuries last season. If Bayern are confident about keeping him fit, Chalobah can be a shrewd option for them to replace De Ligt. Chelsea are desperate to sell him this summer, pushing him to train with U-21s during pre-season. Bayern can certainly sign him for a fee under €30 million.
