Mathys Tel to score at least 15 goals in domestic competitions

Mathys Tel experienced a breakout year during the 2023/24 season. The 19-year-old French forward scored 10 goals in 41 appearances for Bayern across all competitions last season. Most of those appearances came as a substitute. During one stretch of the season, Mathys Tel developed the reputation of being a super-sub after scoring in consecutive games.

Tel is a versatile attacking player, which gives a lot of tactical flexibility to the head coach. Not only is the French forward an understudy to Harry Kane at centre-forward, he can also cause problems for the opposition when used in the wide positions, particularly from the left, with his pace and astute dribbling.

In recent pre-season games, Tel impressed while playing in the wide position. With Leroy Sané having undergone groin surgery last month and not expected to be back in action until after the September international break, Tel has a good chance of starting on the left flank when Bayern travel to Wolfsburg on Sunday for their season opener.

With Tel also expected to get opportunities playing centrally, either as a deputy to Harry Kane or as a second striker when Bayern are chasing the game, it would be no surprise if he were to even double his goal tally from the previous season. Bayern extended his contract earlier this year as they plan to make him an important player in the squad going forward. He is expected to play more regularly this season than last campaign, so we are backing him to score 15 goals in domestic competitions.
