Bayern Munich to concede less than 40 goals in Bundesliga

One of Bayern’s glaring flaws last season was the way cheap goals were conceded. At times, after seemingly being in control of the match, Die Roten somehow managed to relinquish that control by capitulating in defense. For such an example one must look back no further than the final matchday of last season against Hoffenheim. In this game, Bayern took a comfortable 2-0 lead after just six minutes of play but somehow ended up losing 4-2. The last 3 goals came during the second half in a span of just 20 minutes.

Bayern finished third in the Bundesliga standings last season whilst conceding 45 goals. That figure was the most conceded amongst the top five teams in the division. A recurring theme in most of Bayern’s losses last season was a disconnect between midfield and defence which allowed the opposition’s attackers time and space near Bayern’s goal. Because of that disconnect, Bayern at times leaked goals.

With Bayern having acquired that highly desired specialist number six in João Palhinha, one can expect them to plug the holes in defense and midfield. Additionally, having the team coached by a former player who was one of the best defenders of his generation should have a positive knock-on effect throughout the entire defense. We are backing Bayern to concede less than 40 goals in the Bundesliga, which will effectively increase their chance of bringing the title back to Allianz Arena.
